French parliamentarians at the MoND
During the meeting discussed the issues related to the development of EU Defense Policy, including the initiative of the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO), as well as the EU-NATO relations. Deputy Minister Szatkowski informed the interlocutors about Poland's objections to PESCO (including the letter of Minister of National Defense and Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed to the High Representative), but he assured the will of Warsaw to continue to work on this initiative.
The discussants agreed that exists the need of further developing EU-NATO cooperation. The French side has indicated that the European defense system plays a crucial role. Deputy Minister ensured that for Poland it is important to develop defense capabilities that would be used both for the needs of the EU and for NATO.
The delegates were also interested in Poland's opinion on the issue of migration and the assessment of threats from the East. They stressed that Paris - despite the fact that it focused on the situation on the south - also sees the destabilizing actions of Russia.
During the meeting both sides declared their intention to maintain kind Polish-French relations and expressed their hope for further fruitful cooperation in the field of defense.
