Meeting of the V4 defense ministers
On Thursday, February 2 minister Antoni Macierewicz took part in a meeting of defence ministers of the Visegrad Group, which was held in Niepołomice, Poland.
- We are aware that it is the NATO that builds a system that guarantees us peace and security – said minister.
He informed that V4 ministers also discussed the Visegrad Battle Group, which is to begin an alert duty in 2019. We have tasked our General Staffs to determine its detailed structure – minister Macierewicz added.
Czech Defense Minister Martin Stropnicky estimated that the discussions were fruitful and the meeting is a success: Once again, the Visegrad Group proves that is a very productive component - said Stropnicky. I would like the Visegrad Group to play a stabilizing role in the region and take on increasing pace, as we discussed - he added.
During the meeting, representatives of the ministries of defense of Polish, Czech, Slovakia and Hungary discussed among others the current security challenges in Europe, the prospects of strengthening cooperation within the V4 and issues related to the Visegrad Battle Group 2019 and also tasks that may result from the Visegrad Group's involvement in the security of the Baltic states.
Defense ministers during the meeting in Niepołomice signed the agreement on the directions of further cooperation within the V4.
