Minister Macierewicz at the Munich Security Conference
- We end this conference undoubtedly strengthened with confidence that NATO will be a strong guarantor of security of Poland and of Central European countries and consequently of the world’s security - said at press conference, Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz.
On 17-18 February 2017, the head of the Polish Ministry of National Defence participated in the 53rd Munich Security Conference.
Defence Minister participated in several discussion panels. On the international forum the issues related to the current situation of the European security in the context of conflict in Ukraine was addressed, as well as developments affecting the security situation in southern Europe.
At the press briefing in Munich Minister Macierewicz stressed that the confirmation of the unambiguous and absolute support to the deterrence and support forces of the USA and NATO by the US Vice President Mike Pence, is fundamental.
Minister Macierewicz while talking about the security, pointed out that Poland is the country of NATO, which contributes its part to the effort of all allies - We add our part to the effort of all NATO countries, not only on our territory, but also on the southern flank, where our Air Force detachment is present. We realize also this funding’s threshold of 2% of GDP. We do not want only to take, but also to give. (...) We consider this conference a strengthening of the transatlantic alliance of US and Europe.
On Friday the bilateral meetings took place, including talks with the defense minister of Armenia and the Minister of Defence, Civil Protection and Sports of Switzerland.
