The Challenges of International Security

On Saturday, April 22nd Minister of National Defence Antoni Macierewicz met with Vice President of the International Institute for Peace Prof. Angela Kane. The talks concerned the challenges of international security, particularly the situation in Syria and on the Korean Peninsula.

On April 21st, within this year's International Security Forum (ISF) International Conference at the War Studies University, Professor Kane gave a lecture entitled "Chemical warfare during the war and Syria."


In 2013 Professor Angela Kane was responsible for the investigation into chemical weapons in Syria and conducted negotiations that led to Syria's accession to the Chemical Weapons Convention. In the years 20122016 she was the United Nations (UN) Commissioner for Disarmament. In April 2016, she was appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Director-General of UNESCO to the Council of the United Nations University. Professor Kane lectures at Sciences Po in Paris and is affiliated with the Vienna Center for Non-Proliferation and Disarmament.
