The talks at the Pentagon
The talks concerned issues related to the development of Polish-American cooperation, including the presence of US troops on the Eastern flank. In the talks also participated Undersecretary of State Mr. Tomasz Szatkowski.
“The main purpose of my visit to the Pentagon is the same as the main goal of Polish security policy: to consolidate the strategic alliance between Poland and the United States. This is essential for the security of Poland and security of the Eastern flank of NATO. For this purpose, there is a need for a broader presence of American troops in Poland” - said Minister of National Defence Antoni Macierewicz during the Pentagon talks.
The Head of MOnD thanked for the invitation and the opportunity to meet, he also underlined that Poland is a credible ally of the United States. Minister Macierewicz expressed thanks to Secretary of Defence gen. James Mattis for all the actions of American soldiers, who every day contribute to increase the security of the Eastern flank.
At the press conference, the Chief of the MOnD reported that during his visit in the Pentagon the decision was taken to set up a working group to synchronize American and Polish forces. “We want to synchronize the actions of our armies as soon as possible, because it is evident that the Russian pressure is large and it requires action”.
After the meeting, Minister of National Defence also reported that talks with the US Secretary of Defence concerned, among others, "the needs to strengthen US forces in Europe, possibilities to increase Poland's involvement in places that are significant to the United States and the issue of improving the functioning of NATO".
Among the topics discussed at the meeting were also issues related to the displacement of forces within the Alliance. As Minister Macierewicz stressed “Poland has taken long-term decisions that allow to shorten the time to resolve various issues related to this matter”.
Minister Antoni Macierewicz also informed the media that on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Poland, he invited the Secretary of Defence gen. James Mattis to visit Poland and to meet with soldiers who are present in Poland as part of strengthening the eastern flank.
